It is primarily used to conduct impulse voltage tests—such as full‑wave lightning impulse, chopped lightning impulse, and switching impulse—on power equipment and other test specimens, thereby evaluating their insulation performance. The device can generate eight types of impulse voltage waveforms: standard lightning waves, switching waves, chopped lightning waves, oscillatory lightning waves, oscillatory switching waves, steep‑front waves for line insulators, steep‑front waves for composite insulators, and transformer induced switching waves.
